Resident Evil fans urged to check out new Steam freebie

The art direction in this one is giving me serious Control vibes too

A brand new indie horror title on Steam just got a free demo that lets players try a slice of the full release before it drops later this year, and fans of both Resident Evil and Remedy Entertainment’s Control may want to give this one a shot.

Indie horror games are a dime a dozen these days, especially when it comes to stuff you can find on the Steam storefront.

Indie developers’ obsession with the genre does make a lot of sense when you think about it, because it’s a pretty straightforward type of game to develop if you’re just starting out in the industry. Throw in some jump scares, a few freaky monsters, and some scratchy violin sounds, and you’re already halfway there.

It does, however, make wading through them a little tricky. When there are so many cookie-cutter first-person indie horror games out there, discerning between them can be a tad difficult.

Luckily for you, that’s what I’m here for, because I think today’s example looks relatively unique.

ICYMI: GTA VI's second trailer is finally here.

They See Us, a first-person psychological horror game by developer and publisher MalumGames, has a fun little twist on the genre… and you can try it out for free right now, just before its planned 2025 release date.

What sets this one apart is its focus on co-op, because players are expected to manoeuvre around traps and enemies as a group in a bid to uncover the information required to progress through each level.

That means that, while creepy foes still lurk around every corner, your main foe this time around is going to be whatever buddy you play with.

You have to trust that your partners aren’t going to screw up and bait your party into an early death, all while you work together to solve the puzzles being thrown your way.

That’s a pretty long-winded way of saying, “This looks neat”. No word on the release date of the full game yet, but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for it.
