For those who are yet to play the 25-year-old classic Half-Life, you can now add it to your Steam library completely free of charge for a limited time.

First released in 1998, Half-Life has gone on to become one of the most recognised video games of all time. Now almost thirty years on, it seems fitting that Steam will be the one offering players the chance to get their hands on it for free considering the title was Valve’s first-ever game.

Take a look at the Half-Life: Alyx reveal trailer below!

As a result, it can be claimed that Half-Life went on to pave the way for Valve, ultimately leading the way to the Steam digital storefront. Which incidentally, is where you can head to download Half-Life for a limited time right now. Available now until 20 November, the Valve title will be marked down to $0.00 from its usual $9.99. Once ‘purchased’, it will be available to download at any time via your Steam library.

Despite being 25-years old, Half-Life is still a unique take on the sci-fi genre by effortlessly combining action and adventure in a frighteningly realistic world. Since it was released in 1998, it has gone on to win Game of the Year with 50 different publications and still sits at a 96 average review rating, making it one of the highest-rated video games of all time.

With its sequel Half-Life 2 being released in 2004, fans have been desperate to hear news of a potential third part. However, with Valve yet to share any news on this possibility, it seems we may be in for a long wait. Despite the story currently being unfinished, Valve did release the VR title Half-Life: Alyx back in 2020 which gave fans a taste of the world they had been desperately missing.

Luckily, we still have the classic title to dive back into so make sure you don’t miss out on Steam’s epic deal.
