We’re rapidly approaching the end of 2023. Ahead of us lies a whole new year of game releases but if you’re totally in the dark about what’s on the way, allow us to drop a recommendation.

We all know about the heavy hitters. I’m talking about games like Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, Final Fantasy VI Rebirth, and Black Myth: Wukong. It’s no secret that they’re all on the way in 2024, but what about the games that fly under the radar? Well, if you’re a fan of both the Ghost Recon and Call of Duty franchises, you’re probably going to want to keep an eye on EXFIL, an upcoming first-person shooter from developer Misultin Studios.

Black Myth: Wukong is shaping up nicely. Check out the game’s trailer below.

EXFIL combines first-person shooter gameplay with stealth, survival, and battle royale elements in a PvP game where you’re tasked with retrieving intel. Playing against four other teams, players must use their GPS skills in a race to both locate the intel first, and then carefully extract it.

The game is in playtesting with the current extraction mode just a taste of what’s to come. Devs wrote, “This extraction style mode offers you a variety of tactical decisions and two paths to victory. We hope you enjoy this initial layout and gamemode and it gives players a taste of what EXFIL can provide.” Seeing as EXFIL is made by a small group of indie devs, the hope is that further modes can be added later down the line.

There are three custom maps available - North Woods, Port Lobos, and Camp Osprey - and there are around 12 different weather possibilities and transitions to make each match feel unique. Devs are actively working on adding NPCs, round stats, localisations, and slot inventory in the coming months. The recent playtest has closed but do keep an eye on the game’s Steam page if you’re keen to see more from this project.
