Steam’s latest free download looks like the perfect combo for Fallout fans who also enjoy survival gameplay.
If you’re a fan of Fallout, but wish the series had more survival mechanics as seen in games like Valheim and Subnautica, this new free demo on Steam gives you a taster of that.
Developed by Weforge Studio, Macabre is a four-player co-op game in which your team must use stealth to outwit a terrifying monster stalking you in the wilderness.

“Macabre is a stealth-based extraction horror game set inside a collapsing time Rift — an unstable anomaly where timelines shift, environments reconfigure, and a shape-shifting terror adapts to your every move,” the official description on Steam reads.
“Each session is procedurally generated, with randomised maps, objectives, and monster behaviours that force you to stay alert and adapt. Scavenge rare resources, build up your gear, and work to stabilise the Rift before it collapses.”

It also looks like a decent one for fans of classic horror films such as The Thing and Alien, as well as the more recent TV series Stranger Things from Netflix.
Macabre will be launching into Early Access at some point in the future, but a free demo is available to play now.
The demo, featuring the subtitle “Banjo’s Trial”, features some of the advertised features that will be in the full game, including 1-4 player co-op, randomised maps, and the smart AI of the monsters.
Weforge Studio estimates that Macabre will stay in early access for about two years when it launches earlier this year.

This will give the developer time to release “new maps, monsters, mechanics, and progression,” as well as polish the game to get it ready for a full release.
It’s also laid out some new mechanics and content that it plans to add to the game over time, such as “Roaming animals to increase tension, confusion and immersion,” and “Additional monster forms with unique behaviours and abilities.”
Although an Early Access launch date hasn't been confirmed yet, you can wishlist the game on Steam to keep up to date on development.
