Steam users can pick up a limited-time free game, which is soon becoming a paid title next week.
eWorlds launched back in 2024 as a free-to-play game on Steam with online PvP and co-op, but didn’t quite amass a substantial playerbase when it first came out.
However, since developer GGTech Studios announced that the game will be turning into a paid title, the player count has jumped up into the several hundreds.
As for the reason why the game has gone from free-to-play to paid after being out for a year and a half, GGTech blames this on server costs.

“Today, we want to share an important update regarding eWorlds,” writes GGTech. “Since launch, we have loved seeing you play, explore, and enjoy the multiplayer experience.
“However, as time goes on, keeping the servers active indefinitely requires covering costs that the current free format does not allow us to offset. To ensure that the servers stay online and guarantee that eWorlds remains playable and accessible in the future, we have decided to change our monetization model.”

As a result, eWorlds will be turning into a paid title on 16 April, having a base price of $3.99 when this change comes into effect.
However, if you already own the game or add it to your library before this date, it’ll remain in your library and you’ll be able to keep it there forever.
For new players starting on 16 April, however, they’ll need to purchase the game at its new base price, where the revenue will go towards “covering server costs and ensuring the multiplayer matches stay operational.”
GGTech ends the announcement by writing: “We know that transitioning from a free to a premium model is a significant change, but we consider it necessary to sustain eWorlds' servers in the long term.”
If you haven’t yet picked up eWorlds for free on Steam, you have until 16 April to do so.
