Elden Ring expansion quietly teased in mysterious new update

DLC files were just added to Elden Ring on Steam with fans convinced that Shadow of the Erdtree is about to drop.

Oh my. Elden Ring just received a mysterious new update on Steam so yes, fans are already jumping to a very big conclusion. Could Shadow of the Erdtree be about to shadow drop?

We’ve been waiting for Shadow of the Erdtree for quite some time now. It was revealed, out of nowhere, in February of last year. You may recall that Elden Ring launched in February of 2022. With Shadow of the Erdtree announced one year later, could we see it released in February of 2024 to continue the anniversary trend? Since announcing the DLC, FromSoftware have revealed precisely nothing. From its concept art, we can guess that it somehow links to Miquella and Torrent but that’s about it. We may finally have a development on our hands though.

2023 release Lies of P should satisfy Elden Ring fans. Take a look at the game in action below.

Twitter user Ziostorm1 spotted that an ‘unknown app’ was added to the DLC section of Elden Ring’s Steam page on 11 January. This is the first file added to this section since May 2022. While it could be anything, it is mighty suspicious that this update comes just as we approach the one year mark of Shadow of the Erdtree being announced. We’re surely overdue for an update given that the expansion didn’t appear at 2023’s Summer Game Fest nor The Game Awards.

As I said, we’re also approaching the two year anniversary of Elden Ring. Surely, there is no better time than now? It’s not the only thing that’s left fans feeling suspicious. PUREARTS are due to launch their first Elden Ring collectible figure next month while a leak revealed that Thrustmaster are also seemingly releasing some kind of Elden Ring collab.

The Thrustmaster leak event went as far as mentioning a “sync with the new Shadow of the Erdtree expansion release”. As with any theories and leaks, do take this with a pinch of salt but all signs point to February. We’ll be keeping a watchful eye out for further developments.
