If you’re on the lookout for a game that can be considered a bit of Bloodborne and Red Dead Redemption’s expansion, Undead Nightmare, then check out this new strategy title.

Obviously, FromSoftware’s Bloodborne and Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption are two very different games. For starters, one is a gothic RPG with a gruelling difficulty and bosses, and the other is, at times, a satire perspective on the Wild West era.

That being said, both are fantastic games in their own right, and each goes down as one of the best offerings in the video game industry. So, if there’s a game that can in some way blend the best of both, it will certainly pique our interest.

One such game could be Nightmare Frontier, developed and published by Ice Code Games, in collaboration with Slitherine. This is a strategy game that has the gothic nature of Bloodborne but the wackiness of Red Dead Redemption’s Undead Nightmare. It has also clearly been influenced by X-COM.

“Behold the first-ever tactical extraction looter, where you pit your courage and leadership against fears made manifest: the Dreadweaver,” reads the synopsis of the game on Steam.

“Lead a band of scavenger roughnecks into a devastated boom town of the alternative 1900s. Get in, face the monsters, grab what you can carry and get out. Alive.”

Gamers are loving Nightmare Frontier!

At the time of writing, from 189 Steam user reviews, Nightmare Frontier has 161 positive reviews, currently earning the “Mostly Positive” rating, which, give or take, is about 85% in the plus.

“I was honestly surprised at how fun this was, and also surprised this game hasn't gotten more attention.

"Reminds me a lot of Rogue Waters, which I also thoroughly enjoyed, but this feels different enough that I didn't feel like I was playing a reskin by any means,” explained Ghost.

User MyRstur said: “OMFG, this is a great idea, enhancing the XCOM-like genre. I'm speechless.

"This is just such a cool design. If you liked the other game(Rogue Waters), they have similar looting mechanics, chances are you'd like this one too!

"The game has more content in development. I'm impatiently waiting for more content!"

Of course, not every review is positive, so I’ll balance it out with this one. “A much worse version of Rogue Waters. Play that one instead, it's a far better game from these devs,” wrote Nine.

Nightmare Frontier is out now as an early access title on Steam and is currently discounted by 15%.
