This upcoming horror shooter is free to play for a very, very limited time, so I suggest you head on over to its Steam page and download it ASAP while you still can.
Have you ever played Bloodborne and thought, “Damn, I wish I blunderbuss was a Benelli M2 semi-automatic shotgun”?
Alternatively, have you ever played Call of Duty and thought, “Damn, I wish I could use this Benelli M2 semi-automatic shotgun on a Lovecraftian-inspired nightmare monster”?
In that case, I might just have the horror shooter of your dreams– but you’ll have to act fast if you don’t want to pay to try it out.

Beneath is a survival horror first-person shooter on Steam from developer Camel 101 and publisher Wired Productions, and it's set to drop at some point in 2025.
It looks like an absolute blast based on the trailers, and I’m a big fan of any game that lets you mess around with and customise your firearms (at least when it comes to single-player games).
However, you might want to try the game out before you commit to buying it on release. That’s reasonable. I’d even go as far as to say it’s smart.
Luckily for you, the devs are holding an open playtest for the game… right now.

All you have to do is mosey on over to Steam and enter the playtest, and you’ll be able to play this one until 4 August. Yes, tomorrow.
If you’re not on Steam though, don’t worry. While you won’t be able to access the playtest on consoles, the devs have just announced that console ports of Beneath will be coming at some point in 2026 (just after the game officially releases on PC).
Here’s hoping console users get access to their own specific playtest, because this one looks like it could be a sleeper hit in 2025.
