Starfield housing system officially confirmed by Bethesda

We get to decorate and get homely in space, which is all we really want

There’s a lot of things fans are hoping for when it comes to Starfield, and thanks to confirmation from Bethesda, we now know that housing is one of them.

We keep saying the countdown is on for launch, but now Starfield has officially gone gold, and we’ve all lost our collective minds with excitement, the clock is ticking into overdrive. With its NexusMods page live, and fans already insisting that the game is a success before official reviews drop, the hype is tangible.

Get ready to make a home in space with the Starfield gameplay reveal

That enthusiasm is now heightened thanks to a recent Starfield Q&A on Discord. As TweakTown reported, the devs have confirmed that a housing system is in place for all players who want to settle down and make space their forever home.

When asked about properties, lead quest designer Will Shen said “Yep! There's housing in different cities that the player can get. Some you have to purchase and some are rewards for specific quests.”

As if Shen’s words weren’t reassuring enough, Emil Pagliarulo, Bethesda’s studio design director, hinted that there’s a special property related reward as part of a mission. “Sure can! You can purchase a dwelling in all the major cities in the game. And there's at least one that you get specifically for completing... something.”

Now we’re even more curious.

Our curiosity continues to peak with each new nugget of information, like how our characters’ parents will look thanks to “new face tech '' used in the game’s development. Pagliarulo explained, “Just as we did in Fallout 3 with your dad, and in Fallout 4 with your son, in Starfield, if you take the Kid Stuff Trait your parents are based off of you.” They added, “No spoilers, but I think fans will really appreciate the actors we got to play those roles. And they just get SO into it, it's awesome. (Oh, and yeah, you can get... stuff).”

We notice a recurring theme of “stuff” and “something” being bandied about here, which is both exciting and mildly frustrating.

Alongside questions about housing and genetics, answers were given regarding how time passes when not playing the game, how in-depth fans should go with their characters’ backgrounds, and basically any other questions you can think of.

As with any Q&A before launch, the devs are trying to give us just enough to have us begging for more, while also avoiding spoiling anything for us.

With us now able to pre-load the game onto our PC and consoles, the question everyone is desperate to get the answer to is whether Baldur’s Gate 3 will still manage to beat Starfield like it’s already beaten Zelda TOTK.

Remember folks, Starfield officially blasts off on 6 September on PC and Xbox.
