Skyrim player follows their child NPC across the map, has a wild adventure

Following an NPC in a Bethesda game always seems to lead to something odd

NPCs in Bethesda games are odd little fellows. For the most part, they’re relatively organised and set in their ways.

They have schedules they stick to diligently, repeating the same tasks each day of the week. They have jobs, they eat, they sleep, and they even take the time to converse with other NPCs (and repeat the same two or three conversations ad nauseam).

The player can break their monotony in lots of different, fun ways however, like by killing their spouses, continually blocking their pathing, or forcing them to take part in events outside of their usual schedules.

One user on Reddit opted to take things to the extreme though, by following their adopted child across the length of Skyrim’s entire map.

As user 1981VWSciroccoS explained in their thread “followed my child leaving my wedding, this is the route she took”, their journey began in the Temple of Mara in Riften and ended relatively close to the Blue Palace.

Interestingly, even though the NPC did eventually bug out and refused to walk any further once they reached this point, they did get extremely close to the player’s only home in Solitude.

Even though the pathing clearly didn’t work exactly, it does imply that the game was at least attempting to have them walk the entire way back home.

It’s also kind of amusing that the NPC opted to walk right through Fort Greenwell and didn’t aggro any of the bandits there in the process, almost as if they knew they were completely safe from harm.

Their video “How Do Fallout’s NPCs Get Home?” tracks several NPCs across the map in Fallout 3 as they attempt to find their ways home, with equally silly results.
