Red Dead Redemption 2 is an emotional rollercoaster, to say the least. Death, betrayal – it’s all designed to hit you right in the feels. However, whilst it doesn’t hold the punches, there’s one newly discovered secret that’s bringing a smile to fans’ faces: Rufus being a good boy. I, for one, will always champion a game that recognises the angelic qualities of man’s best friend.

Okay, so we all knew that this wonderful doggo was, and forever will be, a good boy. However, what a lot of fans didn’t realise is that if you study Rufus in-game, a text box will appear that simply reads “Rufus is a good boy”.

Take a look at some of the best Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below!

This wholesome hidden gem has, naturally, pleased Red Dead Redemption 2 fans over on Reddit, with one player saying, “The goodest of good boys”. It’s a sentiment that a lot of fellow Redditor agree with, though others are surprised it took the OP so long to discover this little secret; user RiskyUnknown played a whopping 830 hours of the sequel before noticing this. We’re shocked and appalled, but we move on.

For those wondering why this small but important informational text is so important or surprising, it’s because other dogs in the game display breed information when you study them. Not Rufus, though, this good boy is special, a dog’s kind of dog.

While some users posit questions as to what happened to Rufus – he lived like a king, by the way – others would much prefer to delve into the other secrets that Red Dead Redemption 2 holds. Oh yes, there’s eight secrets that many miss, but are truly some of the best little extras in the game. Then there’s the grim discoveries, the ones that only the most eagle-eyed fans will spot during their playthroughs…

Whatever your reasons for dipping back into the game, assuming you ever left, there’s no doubt that Rufus is one of the main attractions. Well, that and the emotionally poignant details of Arthur’s last ride, but I prefer to think of the goodest doggo around, happy and thriving in the wild west.
