Red Dead Redemption 2 gamers can claim DLC freebies, but you’ll need to act fast before it’s too late.

Fans of Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2 have had a great time this week, all thanks to a new event that’s seemingly inspired by the critically acclaimed expansion, Undead Nightmares, for 2010’s Red Dead Redemption.

The event in question is called ‘Strange Tales of the West’ and, for the first time in Red Dead Redemption 2’s multiplayer offering, Red Dead Online, fans were treated to a free expansion-sized content update, similar to what we’ve seen regularly with GTA Online.

“Step into the vibrant, ever-evolving world of Red Dead Online and experience life in frontier America,” reads the synopsis of the multiplayer game.

“Chase down bounties, battle outlaw gangs and other players, hunt, fish and trade, search for exotic treasures, run Moonshine, and much more to discover in a world of astounding depth and detail.”

Embark upon four new adventures that require steely resolve and courage in the face of the odd, twisted, and downright supernatural.

With the arrival of ‘Strange Tales of the West’, Rockstar Games has also released its traditional monthly campaigns that offer players bonus XP, currency and free DLC by simply completing missions in Red Dead Online.

What’s more, just by logging into Red Dead Online this month, players will be gifted with a Rebellion Poncho, which is a nice bonus.

There will also be free DLC given away by completing specific missions during set weeks, such as earning the blue Eberhat Coat by completing a round of Wildlife Photography.

If you want to claim that blue Eberhat Coat, make sure you do so before 7 July 2025 comes to an end, because when that time comes, it will be gone forever to make way for something new.

Red Dead Online can be purchased individually or is included with Red Dead Redemption 2 as a bundle. Both games are available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
