PlayStation has teased the return of Uncharted with a new free gift to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Released on 10 May, 2016, Uncharted 4 has become one of the most beloved games of the PlayStation 4 era.
Selling around 18 million copies across the rest of the PS4 generation, the game became the fifth-best-selling PS4 game, behind GTA V, Marvel’s Spider-Man, God of War, and Horizon Zero Dawn.
Ten years on, rumours have been circulating for a while regarding a new Uncharted game in development by Shaun Escayg, who directed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and has worked on multiple other Naughty Dog games as Lead Cinematic Animator.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, rumours have sparked once again following PlayStation’s new celebration of the 10th anniversary of Uncharted 4.
PlayStation has added a new Welcome Hub background based on Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection for all PS5 users to download.
The image features key art from the collection featuring protagonists Nathan Drake and Chloe Frazer front and centre. Secondary characters like Nadine, Sam, Elena and Sully can also be seen, along with the collection’s two main villains, Rafe and Asav.
The background also uses some dynamic effects, including a moving compass centred on Avery’s Gold and the Tusk of Ganesh (the two main macguffins of both games), as well as some other effects, lighting up parts of the image.
To use the background on your own console, go to the PS5 Welcome Hub on the home screen, select Change Background, and navigate to it under the Games tab.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear to use the iconic Nate’s theme from the Uncharted series. Sorry, folks.
Released in 2016, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End features the series’ protagonist and treasure hunter Nathan Drake as he is persuaded by his long-lost brother to come out of retirement to chase after the lost gold of pirate Henry Avery.
It was followed up with Uncharted: The Lost Legacy in 2017, a standalone expansion which saw the return of Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross searching for the Tusk of Ganesh in the Sahyadri mountain range.
While both games put a neat bow on the series, offering a conclusion to most characters’ storylines, some plot threads were left loose enough for Naughty Dog or another developer to come in and continue the franchise at a later date.
Fans have lobbied for Drake’s daughter, Cassie, to be the protagonist of the next Uncharted game (a sentiment we agree with). She was introduced in the epilogue of Uncharted 4, with the game teasing that she has a similar thirst for adventure, just as her parents do.
