Unfortunately, Naughty Dog failed to surface during yesterday’s State of Play (2 June).

Many predicted that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet might receive a launch window, with some fans even hoping that the rumoured Uncharted reboot might be unveiled.

For now, we remain completely in the dark as to what Naughty Dog’s upcoming plans are, but I can point you in the direction of a free new experience that might scratch the Uncharted itch.

The Eternal Life of Goldman is an upcoming 2026 adventure-platformer coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

In terms of its presentation, it’s pretty far removed from what you’ll find in Uncharted, but when it comes to gameplay and overall feel, it shares far more common ground than you might expect.

That’s because The Eternal Life of Goldman sees you investigate “legends, fairy tales, and myths” much like Nathan Drake.

This thrilling adventure takes you to a strange archipelago where the protagonist seeks to put an end to a mystical deity.

“To find the Deity, you will have to delve deep into the many secrets these islands keep. You will discover a place marked by tragedy, and filled with eccentric characters and remarkable contrasts,” the synopsis teases.

To do that, you’ll platform your way through tropical jungles, ancient temples, and perilous landscapes. You’re likely now seeing where the Uncharted comparison comes in.

Players will be able to upgrade their abilities, although there’s not a lot out there at the moment on what abilities exactly are available in the game.

The gameplay shows that players will be able to dash, jump, drag, and slide in terms of platforming.

Devs do note that The Eternal Life of Goldman is a game that “encourages exploration and will give you a sense of discovery”.

“Far from mindlessly relying on cliché and formula, The Eternal Life of Goldman turns the genre on its head. The game carefully includes everything we all love most about side-scrollers, across the various styles, trends and eras. And it leaves out all the frustrating stuff that doesn't make sense and wastes time,” they add.

While no exact release date has yet been pinned down, you can now try a free slice of the game via the PlayStation Store as well as Steam. It’s not yet made its way to any further platforms.

The demo runs for an impressive 90 minutes and takes you through the opening of the game.

At the time of writing, the demo boasts a score of 4.78 on the PlayStation Store, with a whopping 90% of players awarding a perfect five out of five.

You can’t leave written reviews on PlayStation, but we can hop over to Steam to see what gamers think.

“One of those amazing demos that you DON'T WANT to finish because you want to enjoy the full game,” remarked one player.

“A truly fantastic game, it gave me the same feeling I had playing Crash Bandicoot 20 years ago on the PS1,” added another, which is very high praise.

“This is the most fun I've ever had with a demo - really took me back to the demo disc days, just enjoying replaying the same levels to find more stuff,” said one more.

Hop into the free demo for The Eternal Life of Goldman on PlayStation 5 and Steam now.
