The Last of Us Day, Naughty Dog and Sony’s official celebration of all things TLOU, has been and gone, which surely means that we got some cool free stuff or some huge announcement, right?
We certainly did get some free stuff, and I guess there was technically an announcement of sorts, but… just don’t get too hyped, for your own sake.
The Last of Us Day, which used to go by the name "Outbreak Day", has been a yearly tradition for Naughty Dog ever since The Last of Us first dropped on PlayStation 3 back in 2013.
Said day always lands on the same date every year: September 26, which marks the day that the world went to hell in a handbasket in the TLOU canon. Usually, Sony and Naughty Dog use the day to offer folks some freebies or announce something big (like they did back in 2022, when HBO released a teaser trailer for The Last of Us TV series).

Many assumed that they’d finally announce that they were working on The Last of Us Part III this year. Those folks are probably wondering why they got themselves so worked up, because this year we instead received… free stencils for TLOU-themed pumpkins.
Yup, that's right. You can now download "a set of nine The Last of Us Jack-O-Lantern stencils" directly from Naughty Dog's blog. Huge news for someone out there, probably.
To be fair, that wasn't everything. They also announced that some Animated Avatars and Avatar Frames are coming to the Steam Points shop, which is marginally more exciting than the pumpkin stencils.
Also, there are some new wallpapers from graphic designer Jason Ferry which, admittedly, do look sick. Oh, and Joel and Ellie are getting Magic: The Gathering cards. Sure, why not.

There are a few other things in there, too. A new statue. Info on the upcoming The Last of Us: Part I and Part II Scripts book. Some YouTooz plushies. God, who is buying those YouTooz things? Fess up, right now.
You probably don’t need me to tell you that the public sentiment regarding the blog post has been less than positive, but unfortunately, the fans only have themselves to blame for that one.
I personally don’t think Naughty Dog is going to wait until a specific date every year to announce a new The Last of Us game, unless said announcement just happens to line up with the date naturally. It’s not something they’d probably be able to keep under wraps for that long.
But hey, at least Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet looks cool. I wonder when Intergactic Day is going to be? Sorry, I’m going off tangent– I’m just really looking forward to it so I can claim my Jordan A. Mun-themed pumpkin carvings.
