Resident Evil 4 surprise update drops, 1 year on from the last

Resident Evil 4 fans have been surprised with a patch for the critically acclaimed remake, a year on from the game's last update.

Since 2019, Capcom has been knocking it out of the park with its Resident Evil remakes, long after the amazing Nintendo GameCube remake of 2002. We’ve, of course, had new standalone entries such as 2017’s RE7: Biohazard and 2021’s RE Village, but there’s something uniquely special about a heavy dose of nostalgia that only remakes can bring.

Check out the Resident Evil 4 remake trailer below!

In our review of Resident Evil 4, we said: “The gameplay is better than in the original title - even with its limitations - while the changes and new additions bring a new lease of life of their own.”

Aside from the well-received Capcom remakes, we know that a new Resident Evil game is on the way, rumoured to star Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine as playable characters for the very first time in a video game.

There are also rumours that new remakes are on the way, which should come as no surprise when you consider Capcom’s recent success. It’s up in the air which games in the series will be remade but it seems that Resident Evil Code: Veronica and Resident Evil 5 are leading the pack.

In the meantime though, we can return to Resident Evil 4 to enjoy its latest update.

As reported by ComicBook, details on the remake patch, ‘update version 1.410’, are incredibly vague at this time.

In fact, there are no details on exactly what this patch does.

Not even the official Resident Evil Twitter account has tweeted about the patch nor have the patch notes been updated on ResidentEvil.com, which is very strange.

All we know right now is that the patch is exclusive to PlayStation 5 and having just downloaded it, I can confirm it comes in at just under 609MB. It might be safe to assume that the update is beneficial for PS5 Pro consoles and could improve stability across the board as well as fix reported bugs.

Hopefully, Capcom will release the patch notes soon. The Resident Evil 4 remake is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and compatible Apple devices.
