The PlayStation Store has welcomed two free titles that don’t require you to have a PlayStation Plus subscription.
And yes, they’re full length games complete with trophies.
While they may not be GOTY contenders, if you’re on a budget and in need of something to play, you might find a fix of fun in Chess Mate and Ecchi Secrets as spotted by PlayStation Lifestyle.
Let’s begin with the better of the two options given that the second one is, let's say, NSFW.
Chess Mate is exactly what it sounds like, a virtual iteration of chess. You don’t need to be an expert already to get involved.

“Ready to learn chess and master strategy? You’re in the right place,” the synopsis begins.
“Chess Mate is designed for players of all levels , whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player sharpening your tactics. Learn chess for free, practice your moves, and improve your strategy step by step.”
There are 16 different difficulty levels and players can “customise the board with a wide variety of beautifully designed chess piece sets”.

There are three chess sets available for free, plus extra options that can be unlocked from the in-game store.
The second free game option is Ecchi Secrets, but it’s only the standard edition of the title that’s free.
This is one for the gooners with the NSFW gameplay revolving around scantily clad anime girls.
“Secrets lie beneath the covers... avoid enemies and uncover pictures of beautiful girls posing exclusively for you,” reads the weirdly unsettling synopsis.
“Discovering the truth is never easy... the more tempting the secrets, the greater the challenges you'll face.
“Unravel all the mysteries to uncover what the girls are hiding, and prepare yourself for plenty of alluring photos along the way.”
The game features “sensual music”, “simple and engaging gameplay”, and is “a treat for the eyes”.

There are also “easy and difficult” levels, although I couldn’t say how the difficulty actually varies here.
Admittedly, these freebies probably aren’t going to dazzle PlayStation users but they do say you should never look a gift horse in the mouth.
Chess Mate does boast a pretty impressive user score, after all. Give it the benefit of the doubt.
