The PlayStation 5 could become severely limited in comparison to the Xbox Series X/S, all thanks to an emerging collaboration.
For better or worse, the console wars are officially back on. PlayStation’s position as the top home console manufacturer has been uncontested for years but shake-ups at Xbox are set to change that.
This week, Xbox confirmed a reduction in price for Xbox Game Pass and insider reports claim more changes are on the way for subscribers.
One such change was teased by Xbox’s latest CEO Asha Sharma yesterday and it could spell trouble for the PS5 moving forward.
While the price-cut was a big win for Xbox fans around the world, it’s claimed Xbox still isn’t happy with the state of Game Pass.

It’s apparently taken a lot of user feedback into consideration as while the subscription service is stellar in its first-party and third-party games line-up, it’s been bloated by bonus features no one really asked for.

Fortnite Crew is a good example. Those who subscribe to Game Pass and play Fortnite regularly might have not minded paying a little bit more per month for a bonus subscription, but those who have no interest in the game thought it was unfair.
It’s now believed a new iteration of Xbox Game Pass will allow you to choose which benefits you actually want.
The timing couldn’t be better as yesterday Xbox teased a new collaboration with Discord, which sounds like Discord Nitro will soon be awarded as a free add-on to current subscriptions.
This will benefit both Xbox and PC owners as Discord integration was added quite some time ago. You can join voice channels, call members of your friends list and even stream your current gameplay.
Who this might not benefit though are PS5 owners, and here’s why.
Xbox is clearly getting more competitive in terms of console wars. Xbox Game Pass was only the beginning and now the company is having talks about bringing back first-party exclusivity.

Now that Xbox is forming a partnership with Discord, it could mean the PS5 will no longer get the same integration features the Xbox Series X/S currently has.
For example, you can stream your games to friends through your Xbox Series X/S but that’s not currently a feature on the PS5, nor will it ever be if Xbox makes the right agreements.
It has even bigger implications for the future too as both Xbox and PlayStation are working on the next generation of gaming consoles.
Xbox’s mysterious Project Helix will be a console/PC hybrid so you can bet Discord will see some kind of support, whereas with the PlayStation 6 it’s far less likely.
Sure a lack of Discord support on PlayStation hardware isn’t a deal-breaker, but it’ll definitely sway some gamers, especially those that consistently play cross-platform multiplayer games as Discord is very handy for keeping everyone connected.
We’re yet to see the full extent of Xbox’s partnership with Discord but it could be bad news for those who prefer Sony’s consoles.
