Not bad PlayStation, not bad

PlayStation is still celebrating its 30th anniversary with some delightfully retro freebies, some of which require you to solve a puzzle to claim them.

Why PlayStation has decided to cosplay The Riddler from Batman is anyone’s guess but it’s a fun twist on the usual PlayStation Stars formula so we’ll take it.

If you want to celebrate the 30th anniversary in style there’s arguably no better game than Astro Bot, which celebrates the company’s past and present history.

Aside from the memory cards themed after each generation of PlayStation console, the other rewards up for grabs via PlayStation Stars are Polygon man themed, who was supposed to be the company’s mascot character once upon a time.

Unfortunately, most consumers and even PlayStation themselves hated the character and he was locked away forever, rightly so I reckon as he looks monstrous.

He’s been wheeled out for the company’s anniversary though as a digital PlayStation Stars collectable but unlocking him - there are two variants - requires you to solve two puzzles.

On the PS app if you locate the relevant campaigns, you’ll see a variety of symbols and it’s up to you to decipher which game titles they’re spelling out.

After checking them out myself, I’m afraid I can’t give you the answers, but I’m sure the trick is pretty obvious once you’ve figured it out.

When you’ve figured out one of the titles, simply load it up on your console and you should unlock your freebie.

In theory, you could just open a bunch of games you think the mysterious characters are spelling out but that just sort of takes the fun out of it doesn’t it?

Upon completion, you can earn Polygon Man and a variant of the character to proudly display on your digital shelves, or lock away like PlayStation did, it’s your call.

It’s a very happy 30th anniversary for PlayStation, who knows where the company is heading next as it launches more games and consoles.
