PS5 consoles have just been quietly upgraded with a PS5 Pro feature and it feels like an all-around win for players.
The PS5 Pro launched just more than one year ago, with a focus on faster performance and higher resolutions targeted for those playing in 4K resolution, as well as featuring advanced ray-tracing and larger storage.
Although the PS5 Pro seems to be the best option for console gaming at the moment, it’s also the most expensive. Hence why many are still using the regular PS5.
It now seems like Sony doesn’t want to leave those on regular PS5 consoles in the dirt, as a new hardware upgrade has been silently applied to all new units, and it sounds like it could be a winner.

Now, we’re going to get a little technical here but bear with us. Sony seems to have quietly changed the cooling system inside all PS5 Slim models (both disc and digital versions) that should prevent spillage and offer better cooling.

Sony’s PS5 consoles have been known to suffer from Liquid Metal TIM spillage. In theory, Liquid Metal offers better cooling for the console, but is also difficult to handle during system disassembly and becomes prone to spillage.
PS5s are fitted with some grooves and spacing to prevent this, but issues may still arise. On PS5 Pro, these grooves are a little deeper and use a slightly different layout, making it a little more difficult to experience spillage.

As reported by @Modyfikator89 on X (formerly Twitter) though, it looks like the PS5 Pro cooling system has now been added to all new “CFI-2100/2200” PS5 Slim units.
Modyfikator89 calls this hardware upgrade “a GIANT step for console longevity and stability”, and that this is “the most stable PS5 you can buy right now.”

Indeed, PS5 owners shouldn’t really be having any issues with their console’s cooling at the moment, unless there was a defect when it was originally put together.
These babies are built to last a long time and it’s only been five years since release, after all.
However, 10, 15, or even 20 years down the line you may start to experience some issues that may require maintenance.
That’s what this hardware upgrade will help to prevent, so you can continue enjoying your PS5 well into the 2040s.

And hopefully, it won't run as loudly when running your ray-traced games.
