Sony Quietly Patches PS5, Significant Issues Resolved

Thank goodness, and about time really

New PlayStation 5 owners are getting an update PlayStation fans have been waiting for as Sony fixes some of the console’s most frustrating issues.

For those of you that bought the PlayStation 5 Pro you’ll have likely noticed that its better performance came with the unfortunate caveat of greater power usage, and some have reported the console getting incredibly hot and loud after prolonged use.

I think we’ve all been there, when a console sounds like a jet engine taking over from merely pressing the power button.

Sony has known about this issue though and while it can’t magically throw out an update and solve the problem it can at least ensure newer consoles don’t have the same one.

The latest PlayStation 5 Pro consoles are being rolled out without this issue, and thankfully the internal upgrade doesn’t sacrifice what makes the system so desirable in the first place, the performance.

PS5 Pro-
Sony

I won’t get too technical but the gist of it is Sony has released a model of PlayStation 5 Pro called CFI-7100B01, which is now replacing the CFI-7000B01, the model most Pro owners will have.

The new model boasts reduced power consumption, lower heat output, and is generally quieter than the previous one, making it a decent upgrade.

Don’t get too excited though, this isn’t an upgrade worth replacing your old PlayStation 5 Pro for.

Fundamentally both versions of the console are the same and they’ll both offer users enhanced performance on PlayStation 5 games as well as a variety of other improvements over the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Slim, this newer model is just more technically sound.

It’s also good news for the PlayStation 6, as we’re expecting Sony’s next console to be a substantial upgrade over the PlayStation 5 Pro in terms of performance, and hopefully Sony can apply what it’s learnt from the Pro to its next home console.

Too Late Or Just In Time?

We don’t know when the PlayStation 6 is coming out but rumour has it that it’ll be either sometime this year or 2027, with the latter being more likely.

However the fact Sony is still revising the PlayStation 5 Pro implies it’ll be sticking with its current console line-up for some time, and there’s even rumour that the next-generation of console hardware is getting delayed due to the emergence of AI. Both PlayStation and Xbox reportedly want to take advantage of AI for things like upscaling.
