PlayStation gamers are hoping that the PS Stars have aligned with a surprising new update, despite Sony remaining silent at this time.

Sony launched PlayStation Stars in September 2022 in Asia, before rolling it out to the Americas, Europe and Australia the following month. As long as you were a member of its free program, it rewarded you with points for earning specific in-game trophies, playing a new PS Plus title or making purchases from the PS Store.

Players could spend points on PlayStation Store credit or digital collectables to showcase on their PlayStation mobile app profile. All in all, despite Sony nerfing the amount of rewards later on, it was a fantastic scheme that I must have earned around £100 in PlayStation Store credit, give or take.

Sadly, however, Sony announced that the popular scheme was coming to an end, and as of May 2025, players were unable to earn any rewards, and its full closure will arrive on 2 November 2026.

Understandably, fans have been wondering if a new free alternative is on the way, and no, I’m not talking about the new Sony rewards scheme that is essentially an exclusive online shop, which includes a $150 jacket.

Is a PlayStation Stars Alternative on the Way?

“It looks like there’s a listing for 'Wallet Credits' on the PSN store. So is this supposed to be a successor to PlayStation Stars or something?” tweeted realradec on 1 February 2026.

They then followed up with this on 14 May 2026: “The 'Wallet Credits' page has been updated, but I’m still curious to see when Sony will officially comment on it, if ever.”

This appears different to the standard “Funds Wallet” attached to every adult account, which is used to add funds to spend on the PS Store, using a debit/credit card, or purchasing store credit. It also looks like the Wallet Credit and Funds Wallet are two separate entities.

We can only speculate at this time, at least until Sony makes an official statement, but it does leave us to assume that this could be part of a new rewards scheme where users can deposit earned credit into this digital wallet.

Users on Twitter Share Their Theories and Hopes

“Hopefully, it’s a rewards system. Missing PS Stars so bad,” exclaimed HorrorFanSky.

“Could be for the pending lawsuit on being a ‘Digital monopoly' where it's expected you'll be getting paid in PSN credits from the class action lawsuit going on,” suggested GreekThunderX.

“The new Sony strategy is to never comment on anything they change and let the YouTube detectives figure it out,” joked sanecrazyman.

“Nothing to announce here. They had this for years, and it's used when Sony wants to send vouchers to players for whatever reason they have,” revealed ps3zocker, sharing a link to a Reddit thread.

So there you have it, by the looks of things, if what ps3zocker shared is correct, it’s probably nothing to do with a new version of PlayStation Stars, unfortunately, but PlayStation users aren't letting go of their hope. Either way, Sony really could do with addressing this speculation officially.
