PlayStation quietly rolls out update we've been begging for

A simple but welcomed update

This week, Sony will be rolling out a new update for PlayStation consoles that will make a small but very helpful improvement.

Sometimes, it’s not always required for an update to make massive changes because it can be the smallest of improvements that are the best, especially when it comes to spending our hard-earned money. One such update is coming to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on Thursday, 12 September.

As reported by PlayStationLifeStyle, a small update is on the way that will remove the Auto-Add Funds option which as the name of the function suggests, allows Sony to add funds to your PlayStation wallet if you’re short for a renewed PS Plus subscription and/or pre-order payments.

In some respect, having the Auto-Add Funds option active was helpful but at the same time, it was inconvenient to have funds added in blocks of £10 or £20 etc. For example, this potentially left change remaining in your wallet that you may not have wanted following payment of £6.99 for a monthly PS Plus subscription.

What’s more, if you did not have the Auto-Add Funds option active and did not have the necessary funds in your wallet, your PS Plus subscription would be cancelled and you’d have to set it back up.

From this Thursday, if you don't have funds in your PSN wallet, the payment will be charged to your default bank or credit card. That being said, you can still use funds in your wallet if you choose but at least now, auto-renew subscriptions won't be cancelled if you don't have wallet funds.

“If you are happy with your subscription, you do not need to do anything – we will continue to fund purchases from your default payment method when you don’t have enough funds in your wallet to complete a purchase,” reads an email from Sony, sent out to customers.

Of course, if you’d prefer not to have a PS Plus subscription on auto-renew, be sure to adjust the settings accordingly on the PlayStation console by turning that feature off.
