It’s the end of an era.
I must say, I’m lucky enough that none of my favourite games have ever been delisted; I know that if Fortnite ever did receive such a fate, I’d be devastated.
And it’s with that in mind that I truly feel for all players every time a game bites the dust.

Today’s case though isn’t as heart-shatteringly sad as it could be.
You see, Rust is soon to be taken offline but only on last-gen consoles.
Of course, this is by no means good news; if you only own an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 and are an avid player of the title, this will surely be upsetting.
The light at the end of the tunnel though is that it will remain freely available on new-gen platforms so when affected players do eventually upgrade their hardware, Rust will be right there waiting for them.

Live-service titles are always at risk of being delisted; just look at Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
There is an important instruction that comes attached to this delisting.
As you’re likely aware, Rust is not a free-to-play title and will set you back around £45.

If you already own the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One versions though, you are eligible to redeem the PS5 or Xbox Series X/S versions for free.
And the best part is that you can redeem those now; you don’t actually need a PS5 ro Xbox Series X/S to do so.
This way, you can add the new-gen version to your library so that it’s ready for when you do upgrade your hardware.
As for when the game is due to be delisted, there’s some more good news.

Rust’s Xbox One and PlayStation 4 editions aren’t set to be taken offline until the end of October, so you’ve still got plenty of time to enjoy them.
Plus, developers have a little surprise in store.
“To mark the occasion, we are planning something special: the ‘Wipe of Wipes,’ a memorable send-off to celebrate the legacy of old-gen,” they wrote.
I’m imagining we’ll hear more about that in the coming months.

So while it is sad news, there’s plenty of silver linings that come with it.
