A surprise announcement about a PS1 remake made last week has got PlayStation gamers hyped.
The first ever Sony PlayStation is nostalgic for a lot of gamers, particularly those who are now in their thirties and forties (ouch, my back).
The PS1 was the birthplace of some incredible original games, many of which continue to be popular to this day.

This includes franchises like Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil, and Tomb Raider.
Last week, Konami announced that it was working again with Bloober Team to remake the original Silent Hill for modern platforms.
Bloober Team had previously developed the Silent Hill 2 remake from last year, so the publisher was clearly impressed by the sales and reception of that game to warrant another.
And it seems like fans are hyped. It got one person on the PS5 Reddit page calling it the “Best news this year.”

“SH1 is so good and I’m really looking forward to a remake,” wrote another fan. “I hope they don’t alter too much.”
“This is great, hopefully we get a remake of Silent Hill 3 which is my favorite in the series,” wrote a third comment. “Although I completely understand that we have to have a remake of 1 before anyone plays 3.”
This refers to the fact that while Silent Hill 2 was a standalone sequel to the first one, hence why it could be remade before the original. But Silent Hill 3 is a direct successor and features many of the same plot threads and characters.
Fans are just as excited for Bloober Team’s remake over on the Silent Hill Reddit page.

“Every once in a while there's a game announcement that makes me think: ok, I need to live at least as long as it takes to play this game,” wrote one fan. “This is one of those announcements.”
“Silent Hill's atmosphere and how the player (and Harry) are pulled into the horror is, to me, still the best in the series,” wrote another fan.
“The first sequence of the game is so incredible - the twisting camera angles, the changes in music and lighting that drag you into the nightmare before Harry wakes up in the restaurant, wondering if the horrors were real. I cannot wait to experience this remake.”
There's no information on a release window or platforms yet for Silent Hill.

It's likely still very early in production, and so it'll be a few years before we hear anything.
