PlayStation Plus subscribers are announcing that they’re cancelling their memberships in droves, following news that several of the best games on the service are leaving this month.
Incredible news: PlayStation Plus just got way more expensive in dozens of countries.
Even more incredible news: the quality of the service has just gotten way, way worse. Bold strategy, Cotton. Let’s see how it plays out.

Oh, wait, no need to wait– because fans are already stating that they’re planning to, or already have, cancel their subscriptions.
Over in a thread on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit detailing the games leaving the service this month, you’ll be hard pressed to find a comment that isn’t just someone announcing that they’re either cancelling or downgrading their subs.
“I just cancelled. Subscription will expire in a few days. It is a relief,” commented user Ok -Parsnip9488.
“Better than watching them take away so many good games, even first party games for no good reason. If I ever feel like playing the older Monthly games then, I might pay for Essential for a month.”

Balatro is currently available on the essential tier.
“What the actual f**k? So are we gonna have any games to play on the list?” replied user Yellow_Bald_Dude.
“OR is it the whole PS Extra going to be a cosmetic thing to look at? What is even that? I've been a Sony fanboy for years but lawwd we can't defend this s**t.”

I really just don’t understand Sony’s strategy here.
Increasing the price of the service is one thing, but actively making it worse by removing some of the best games on PlayStation Plus is just baffling.
Not to mention, why are games like Resistance: Fall of Man and inFAMOUS: Second Son leaving at all? They’re literally first-party Sony titles. You OWN the rights to these games. Why are you taking them off?
I’ll be interested to see exactly how this affects Sony’s bottom line moving forward, because I think this might be the final straw for a lot of subscribers.
