PlayStation Plus subscribers are disappointed with some of the PlayStation 2 games currently available on the service, and how they’ve been treated by Sony.
The PlayStation 2 is 25 years old this year, and I’m sure many of us have delightful, vivid memories of playing with it. Some of us probably still own our OG consoles too…
Like any piece of hardware though they eventually break down and it’s becoming harder and harder to find a PlayStation 2 is in good condition, though the games are pretty easy to come by. PlayStation Plus features a variety of PlayStation 2 games as part of its Classics line-up, only accessible through PlayStation Plus Premium.
They’re not all treated equally though as some games can be bought and installed directly to your console, without needing PlayStation Plus to play them, whereas others require an active subscription in order to stream them, not even install them.

It’s a pretty silly way of preserving the classics as not everyone has an internet connection stable enough to stream games from the cloud, and others don’t have the disposable income to support a subscription to PlayStation Plus Premium.
PlayStation users have had enough though, and are calling for Sony to give the classic games the love they actually deserve by making them more readily available for players.

In response to a post from PlayStation saying 'Celebrate PS2's 25th anniversary with legendary games available in the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog', X user Rock Rider said 'can we have some love for real classics too" alongside some pictures of the classic God Of War games.

With the exception of God Of War 3 which got a PlayStation 4 remaster the classic God Of War games can only be streamed via PlayStation Plus Premium, not installed and played outright.
“I would love to play the classic god of war games without PS Plus” replied one of the comments, desperately wanting them to be just sold as normal software.
“It’s irritating how they have thousands of classic games not included in the service,” replied another.
It’s the same argument many have for Nintendo Switch Online, as Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2 owners are forced to subscribe to the service just to play games from the Nintendo 64, GameCube etc when they could have easily been sold as virtual console games like they did on the Nintendo Wii and Wii U.

Hopefully PlayStation is listening to its fans but they’ve been asking for changes to PlayStation Plus Classics for a while now and it doesn’t seem like we’re getting any.
