A newly announced PlayStation Plus game has been hailed as a “masterpiece” and is not one to be missed.
PlayStation Plus offers good value for money, it has to be said, despite the customary price hikes as we often see with Netflix-like subscription services.
In total, there are three tiers to choose from: PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra and Premium. PS Plus Essential offers, on average, three new additions each month, along with other bonuses such as free DLC and discounts.
PlayStation Plus Extra offers everything included in the Essential tier, but with the addition of a vast PS5 and PS4 library of games.

Then we have the Premium tier, which offers everything from the two previous tiers, but with extra treats such as retro games, cloud streaming, free movies and more.
With that in mind, during this week's State of Play event, which finally gave us our first proper look at the highly anticipated Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games, the next batch of games was announced for PlayStation Plus Essential.
One of those games is a personal favourite of mine from 2023, Alan Wake 2 from Max Payne developer, Remedy Entertainment.
In my review of Alan Wake 2, I said it’s: “Not only one of the best games of 2023, but it also surpasses the 2010 original in almost every way. It does everything you’d want from a sequel. Alan Wake 2 looks better, it plays better, it sounds better, and it brings scares in abundance.

Gamers on Reddit have been praising the addition of Alan Wake 2 on PlayStation Plus.
“It's a masterpiece, such good horror with some real humour too,” said meerkat23.
“Can I play it without having played the first game?” asked Richyricha, to which VenomousMoon replied, “Hell yeah, the game will summarise everything you need to know at the start.”
While the above comment is true, you can’t get a proper feel for the events that came before with a recap, in my opinion. It may not be essential, but I’d certainly recommend picking up Alan Wake Remastered and playing its two DLC chapters, which link into the sequel.

“I disagree. I think you won't get as much enjoyment out of it if you haven't played the first,” explained amillstone. “They're very different games, but the second game builds on some of the concepts and characters from the first game.”
Alan Wake 2 will arrive on PlayStation Plus Essential, along with Cocoon and Goat Simulator 3, on Tuesday, 7 October 2025.
Alan Wake Remastered is out on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch, while the sequel is also available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
