PlayStation Plus subscribers are being warned to stay away from one of the latest free Monthly Games offerings, and after reading through the reason why… I 100% get it, and I’m surprised Sony even bothered offering this up in the first place.
Thank you in advance to Comicbook’s Tyler Fischer for the original source!
This month’s PlayStation Plus offers are, honestly, mostly great.

Even if the only game you got this month was Balatro, I’d still call it a 10/10 month because goddamn I love Balatro. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun also sounds great, based on the user reviews, and I’m keen to give it a go for myself.
Subscribers aren’t feeling too keen on the third offering this month, however: Ark: Survival Ascended.
So, what’s the deal? Why is this game getting so much hate? Well, it sounds like, for a start, it’s not exactly finished. Users are complaining that it’s, somehow, a downgrade from the previous entry in the Ark: Survival series, and incredibly buggy to boot.
However, the absolute worst thing about it is that, as several users over on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit have stated, there appears to be a very common issue that affects the game’s save files.

“so many of the reviews said that ark was pretty crappy on console/ps5. i love crafting survival games, so i was very excited when this was announced to be on ps+,” wrote user eldritchbaja.
“I played it for about five hours, save and close out, take a break. when i come back to it? save file is gone completely. i looked all over forums for answers and it just seems like this is something that happens on console. i guess i should just be glad this happened at 5 hours and not 50.”
“Ark is genuinely one of the worst games I sank hours on PS4, which by the way is even more buggy. I gave ASA a try (using commands) and it’s basically one step forward two steps back,” replied user LegitimateCompote377.
“A lot of good changes but it’s blatantly unfinished and not made for console with its new controls, and they also shove DLCs in your face quite literally - you can’t take XYZ creature because you don’t have 30 dollar mod installed.”

Oof, yeah, that’s a no from me, chief.
If there’s one thing I value more than the cost of a game, it’s my time. There is absolutely no way I’m touching this one if there’s a pretty high chance I could randomly lose dozens of hours of progress.
But hey, at least they’re charging us more for PlayStation Plus now…
