PlayStation Plus free game has ‘stolen my soul’, fans agree

Please send help, I can't stop playing this game

PlayStation Plus users are already obsessed with one of May’s free PlayStation Plus Essential titles, and folks, I am right there with you. Just one more round…

If you’ve played it, you probably already know the game I’m on about. If you haven’t, you still probably already know. If you’ve never even heard of it, then… well, don’t download it if you value things like “having free time” and “getting enough sleep”.

I am, of course, on about Balatro, which was part of May’s monthly PlayStation Plus Essential offerings, alongside Ark: Survival Ascended and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun.

Over in a thread on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit, fans are already bemoaning their lack of free time and stating that the game has “stolen” their souls.

“I knew about it before it dropped on ps plus. Then I played a few rounds unsuccessfully,” commented user Jordoborg.

“Then my wife was in the room while I played, so I explained how it worked - we are now on the sixth deck (I think), just on the first difficulty level and the “one more round” mentality is real lol.”

“I laughed as soon as I saw it was a free Plus title because I KNEW what people were about to experience”, replied user tokyobassist.

“First it's the music then it's the "one more game" mindset slowly eating away at your logic to go to bed.”

I don’t even want to know how much time I’ve invested in Balatro, but I do know that I’m easily into the 1,000s of hours played.

I don’t know if it’s the type of game everyone will love, especially considering a few people in that thread have complained that it didn’t quite click for them, but if you do find yourself tempted to play it… then good luck.

Maybe send a text to your family and friends that’ll be fully booked for the next few weeks beforehand.
