PlayStation Plus first free game for September gets surprise gameplay trailer

This news is a surprise!

In a surprising but welcomed piece of news, one of the most anticipated games to be released this year is going to be free on PlayStation Plus.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions was announced in April 2023 with a cinematic trailer that garnered a decent amount of hype from fans of the Wizarding World. Despite how popular Hogwarts Legacy has proven to be, one of its most disappointing missing features was the Quidditch games, so the hype for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions was understandable.

Check out the Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions gameplay trailer below!

Sure, you can still fly around on a broomstick in Hogwarts Legacy, which is fun, but not having the Quidditch games left many passionate Harry Potter fans with a big gaping hole. Granted, I think many would have preferred Quidditch to be included in Hogwarts Legacy as DLC or a free update but the announcement of Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions was an exciting one nonetheless.

That being said, there have been some concerns that Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions might be a cheap cash-in with an influx of microtransactions. While we can’t confirm at this time whether or not the game will be a cheap cash-in, we’ve had our best indication of what the game might be like after publisher Warner Bros. Games just released the first gameplay trailer.

What’s more, not only will it have no microtransactions (at least at launch), but Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be free to all subscribers of Sony’s PlayStation Plus, regardless of the tier. It’s also been confirmed by WB Games that it will also have a single-player career mode, a competitive online mode, character creation and more.

The version included in PlayStation Plus is the standard edition, but there will be a Deluxe Edition in digital and physical form if you want extra cosmetic DLC. Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions will be a budget title with a price of £24.99 for the standard edition or £34.99 for the Deluxe Edition.

Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions has a release date of 3 September for PC, PlayStation and Xbox with a Nintendo Switch release planned towards the end of this year. The PS Plus version will be available to claim until 30 September 2024.
