PlayStation Plus has just confirmed its first free game for June, as a brand new game launching Day 1 comes to the service.

Day 1 releases aren't necessarily uncommon to appear on Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus. While Microsoft puts all of its first-party releases onto Game Pass from launch, PlayStation Plus has also hosted some excellent third-party games right from the get-go.

In the past, games like Stray, Animal Well, and Lost Records: Bloom & Rage each came to the service straight from the day they launched.

It appears the trend hasn't dissipated, either, as now PlayStation Plus Extra is getting another Day 1 release in June.

The game is FBC: Firebreak, which is the Control multiplayer spinoff developed by Remedy Entertainment. It will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on the same day. You can also buy a copy if you'd prefer to own it.

FBC: Firebreak is set sometime after Control. It follows a unit of soldiers known as Firebreak as they venture into the Oldest House to defeat enemies infected by the Hiss.

It's a co-operative game for up to three players, and a first-person shooter too. It sounds like Remedy's take on the Left 4 Dead formula set within its own universe.

We're wondering if the game will feature characters like Jesse Faden or Ahti. Considering Remedy's affinity for crossing over its characters between games, we're betting there'll be some references, and maybe even a tease for Control 2.

The studio's last game was Alan Wake 2, which launched back in 2023.

Although Remedy has a marketing deal with Xbox, the company intends to release it on PlayStation Plus as well to get as many people as possible playing.

It also sounds like it'll be shying away from typical live service trends like battle passes and "FOMO" content, instead playing like a traditional multiplayer title that players can jump in and out of as and when they please.

FBC: Firebreak will release on 17th June, 2025. It's coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation Plus Extra.
