There is nothing more satisfying than a surprise PlayStation Plus bonus.

Although the PlayStation subscription service is often criticised, there are moments like this one when it redeems itself.

Before we get into the details of this exciting shadow drop, it's worth pointing out that its arrival isn't the only worthwhile gift the service has to offer – there's also this hit remaster that you really need to check out.

Gamers have had to weather some pretty dismal months of free games to get here, but now it seems that they've be rewarded for their perseverance.

As detailed on r/PlayStationPlus, The Rogue Prince of Persia is now included as part of the PlayStation Plus Extra catalogue. Note the 'Extra' there. Normally priced at £24.99, this is undoubtedly a bargain you won't want to miss.

"We love shadow drops dude!" remarked Redditor Flottrooster. "August is the best month for PS Plus hands down so far this year!"

They're not alone in being so hyped about this bonus freebie – bilbobagheadd also expressed their surprise at the Ubisoft title being added to PS Plus, "Oh shit, saw it was surprise dripping did not expect it on Plus."

In case you know little about this Evil Empire developed title, we're here to give you a very brief overview of what to expect. After all, it's much better to experience the gameplay for yourself than merely reading about it. Before you say it's unlikely people haven't heard of this game, you'd be surprised at just how many gamers have never heard of it.

User lluna11 asked, "HOW have I never heard of this game!"

We have no idea, but fortunately for you, now you do know about it. And you can play for free. Talk about a win!

"Shape the legend of a Prince spared by death, whose fatal mistake doomed his people. Try your best to right your wrongs: each failure is a new chance to explore different paths, discover secrets, meet new characters, and use the knowledge gained from past attempts to change your people's fate and prove yourself as the true Prince of Persia."

It sounds pretty darn epic.

So, what are you waiting for? Make the most of your PS Plus membership and get playing. We highly doubt you'll regret it.
