PlayStation Plus Bonus October Freebie You've Probably Missed

The next Balatro-style timesink of 2025 is finally here

In a seemingly unadvertised move on Sony’s part, PlayStation Plus subscribers can now sink their teeth into one of 2025’s breakout games (this will be funny in about two paragraphs) at no extra cost.

2025 has been a stacked year. As far as Game of the Year is concerned, your guess is as good as mine, because there are far too many deserving titles to conceivably list.

One surprise entry has dropped a little late however, and it would easily be in the running for indie GOTY in literally any other year.

If you haven’t heard of BALL x PIT, there’s probably a good reason for that. While publisher Devolver Digital has done its best to market the game, indie hits like Blue Prince, Hades II, Hollow Knight: Silksong and Sword of the Sea have been dominating the headlines all year round.

However, it’s still enjoying a lot of success, sales-wise. According to developer Kenny Sun (thank you, GamesRadar+), BALL x PIT shifted an extremely respectable 300,000 copies in its first five days of release.

It also probably helps that the game absolutely slaps. I played the demo for this one back in June, and I immediately knew it was going to be a Balatro-style time sink as soon as I was finished. Since the full release officially dropped on October 15, I’ve already managed to put roughly 40 hours into it… and I’m almost definitely going to continue playing it once I finish writing this article.

Don’t just take my word for it, however. As of writing, the game has an Overwhelming Positive score on Steam, with roughly 95% of its 4,000 reviews being positive. Critics were almost equally as positive about it too, with the PlayStation 5 version earning itself an 88/100 score on Metacritic.

If you’re a PlayStation Plus Premium subscriber, you don’t have to pay a penny to find out if BALL x PIT lives up to the hype, because Sony just stealthily added a one-hour-long Game Trial for it to the PlayStation Store.

However, you should probably be warned that you’re definitely going to leave said Game Trial wanting more, because a mere hour of gameplay will barely scratch the surface of what BALL x PIT has to offer.

That’s my way of saying that I will not be held accountable if you end up buying the full game once you’re done. Enjoy the next 100+ hours of your life if you do.
