The latest PlayStation 5 model is garnering praise from gamers online for making one very specific change to its design.
However, not everyone is happy, as some consider the change a bit of a downgrade, whereas others are taking issue with another, slightly more important alteration to the console’s hardware.
Earlier this month, Dealabs Magazine caught wind of a new PlayStation 5 Slim model. The leaked specs for the system were somewhat worrying, but we’ll get into that part of the console revision shortly.
As it turns out, Dealabs were right on the money, as some of Sony’s updated PS5 Slims have made their way onto store shelves across Europe. The tech teardown YouTuber Austin Evans even managed to get his hands on one, and a specific change to its design has made a few people out there happy.

As Austin Evans’ video details, the revised PS5 Slim model has replaced the glossy plastic on the original model with a matte finish, which is something that (apparently) a lot of people over on Twitter are really excited about.
“Bro this should’ve been the standard from day 1… I hate glossy parts on any kind of tech!” replied user @vaughnXvon.
“I'm deadass when I say I'll get a PS5 just for that. I haaate glossy on electronics with a passion, it gets scratched and scuffed just by looking at it”, replied user @Esskov47.
However, regardless of whether you care about that or not, the upside certainly wasn’t worth the downside. As VGC’s Chris Scullion notes, the revised model sports a smaller 825GB SSD– a downgrade when compared to the previous 1TB SSD that the first model of the PS5 Slim had.

Oh well, at least the new PS5 Slim model is cheaper.
Just kidding! Sony is retailing the revised PS5 Slim system at the same price as the first model, so you are literally paying the same amount for less.
Over on the r/gaming subreddit, commenters are taking the news about as well as you’d expect.
“They DE-MAKED the PS5”, commented user Feeling-Umpire6179.

“Oh boy, just what I wanted. Shrinkflation!” replied user PocketCSNerd.
So, what’s the logic behind Sony’s decision here? Well, this is mostly just an educated guess at this point, but it would seem that they opted to make the console cheaper to produce, instead of increasing its price in line with the United States tariff-fueled war on electronics.
Still, 825GB isn’t gonna get you particularly far in this day and age. You probably won’t even be able to fit GTA VI on that thing at this rate.
