PlayStation gamers warned to claim owed free store credit before it's removed

Another of Sony’s reward schemes is set to get the boot next month and although it is a sad time for members, the good news is that there is free store credit up for grabs.

However, you don’t have long.

The Sony Rewards was “a rewards program where gamers, music lovers, movie buffs, and more can be rewarded for doing things they love”.

More simply put, it allowed PlayStation owners to rack up points by making purchases on the Sony Store (whether it be movies, games or music), taking part in surveys and participating in special promotions.

In turn, points could eventually be exchanged for free store credit.

However, the Sony Rewards programme is coming to an end on 31 December, 2024 and that will be the last day that members will be able to redeem points and access their account.

This programme has flown under the radar quite a bit in recent years, with PlayStation users usually relying on PlayStation Plus and the temperamental PlayStation Stars.

However, if you are a member of the Sony Rewards programme, then you may want to log on before the last day of December in order to redeem any remaining points you may have.

The announcement was made over the weekend courtesy of Beevan on r/playstation.

“PSA: If you have a Sony Rewards account login before 12/31 and redeem your points. PlayStation Store Credit redeemable!”

Luckily, this reminder came at the perfect time for some users.

“Bought my Pro and Anniversary Slim on Sony Direct with my PlayStation Credit Card which was 5x points. Going to get like $200 in PSN rewards right before the program ends,” one read.

Not only that but one comment pointed out a brand-new reward scheme coming soon courtesy of Sony.

“As promised, we’re following up with more details about the rewards program for your PlayStation® Visa® Credit Card,” the announcement reads.

“We’re excited to announce that the program — now brought to you by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Comenity Bank — will be called PlayStation® Credit Card Rewards and launch in the beginning of 2025.”

This means that those who own the PlayStation Rewards credit card will have their points rolled over to the new scheme as of 2025.
