PlayStation just revived a franchise we never thought we'd see again

Here comes a classic

For some reason, PlayStation rarely revisits their old, classic franchises. With each new idea, fans seem to seethe that their favourite characters aren’t coming back for a new-gen turn. We seemingly never get many of the older titles either, leaving us to search for older hardware in the hopes we can revisit our youth.

Well, Sony has made a bit of a change - though don’t expect remakes and remasters - this is simply an older game finally seeing the light of the sun once again, but Jak and Daxter are back.

Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier is coming to PlayStation Plus this month.

In the worst game of the series ... Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier. That’s right, you can play the PSP classic on PlayStation Plus and cry that we don’t have a new Jak and Daxter game to rival that gorgeous release we saw with Ratchet and Clank. These two games kind of go hand-in-hand as they both showcased the brilliance of 3D platforming for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 era.

Since then, fans have loved both duos but Jak and Daxter don’t seem to get much love from Sony, until now. The previous games have been available on the PlayStation Plus service for some time, but even hardcore fans would wonder why The Lost Frontier is getting the go ahead when Daxter, arguably a much better game, is still languishing in Sony’s broom cupboard.

Still, we can take this as a positive that the games are seeing a mini revival, though don’t get your hopes up that it’ll go further than this seeing as Naughty Dog has their hands full with The Last of Us. If you’re hankering for a visit to your past self, you can enjoy Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier with new save states and up-rendered visuals when it hits PlayStation Plus this month.
