PlayStation players will be able to enjoy a new free download for an upcoming game in the near future.

Earlier this week, PlayStation held a new State of Play event, which showcased a bunch of new and upcoming games that are on the release slate for the rest of the year.

The stream included titles like Silent Hill f, classic Resident Evil 2 & 3, and Sword of the Sea, which are all hitting PlayStation later this year.

Another upcoming game is Lumines Arise, the latest entry to the classic Lumines puzzle series. It's the first entry to the series since 2018’s Lumines Remastered.

“Lumines is back, and to everyone who’s been a fan since the original, I hope you’re excited about this new chapter built from the ground up to push the synergy of audio, visuals, and gameplay beyond any previous title in the franchise,” the official PlayStation Blog post reads.

If you don’t know what Lumines is about, it’s a puzzle series where you basically have to complete levels by aligning sets of blocks by rotating them and dropping them into the play area.

A bit like Tetris, but with colours instead of shapes.

Lumines Arise brings back the pulsating sensory cavalcade the series is best known for, and optimises it for the PS5. It also has an optional PSVR 2 mode, giving you an extra layer of immersion.

What’s more, Lumines Arise will also be getting a free demo to play later this summer, and you’ll be able to play it with your friends using the multiplayer mode.

From what we’ve seen so far, it’s looking like this could be the PS5’s Tetris Effect.

Which would make sense given it's the same team developing it, including Hydelic who composed Tetris Effect’s award-winning score.

There’s no word on when during the summer the Lumines Arise demo will launch yet, and the game itself also doesn’t have a release date besides a “2025” window.
