As much as we love our PS5, we’ve been eagerly looking ahead to the PS6, constantly wondering what year it’ll be released. Sadly, it doesn’t look like 2024 is going to be the year.

A recent insider leak has revealed that PlayStation is far too focused on another project to be ready to announce the PS6, with the brand currently developing the PS5 Pro. Yes, you read that right, yet another PS5 is being made. But if you’re worried about it being too similar to what’s already on the market, fear not, as Sony is remedying that by including a detachable disc drive.

Have you watched the trailer for Granblue Fantasy: Relink yet?

The same insider also added that this is “just the beginning” of all the new hardware “coming to PlayStation users this generation”. Such a move will see the current PS5 phased out, with the newer model offering better performance, speed, and graphics.

But where oh where does that leave the PS6?

Brace yourselves… PlayStation’s next-gen console likely won’t be released until 2028, according to Insider Gaming. Despite feeling like an uncomfortably long way away, if you compare past console launches by Sony, you’ll notice that this timeframe is in line with previous launch periods.

For anyone who’s desperate for better visuals right this second, while we can’t offer a new console, we can suggest you change these settings to vastly improve your experience. Consider it a stopgap measure to tide you over until the PS5 Pro is released or, if you’re really all about pinching those pennies, until 2028’s PS6.

Gamers are divided over this wait, with some arguing that this generation isn’t done cooking yet. “This generation got off to a very slow/weak start,” argued one player. “[The] PS6 [is] not needed ‘til 2030 at the earliest…”

Others believe that the PS5’s life cycle will only be “seven years”, stating that “we could see a PS6 [by the] end of 2027 at least”, though whether that’ll be the case is something that remains to be seen.
