Sony has rolled out the latest PlayStation 5 system update, and it should be available to all as you read this article (I’ve just downloaded it to my console).
Some system updates are more exciting than others, especially when they add new console features like snazzy themes, but all are important in unique ways, even those that are for mundane “system stability”.
For the most part, whether it’s on PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo, system updates ensure that our consoles are running as smoothly as possible, which should iron out any hard crashes, and whatnot. However, that never truly eradicates issues, but it helps (mostly).
A recent update for PlayStation 5 added important features for the DualSense, which allowed the controller to be paired with four devices simultaneously, including PC and mobile. It also added further Power Saving support.

So what does the latest PlayStation 5 system update do, labelled “25.06-12.02.00.00-00.00.00.0.1”, I hear you ask? It makes “security fixes to the system software.”
Unfortunately, in an MP1st article shared on Reddit, the patch notes do not go into any further detail, but as boring as that sounds, it seems like it’s important nonetheless. The PlayStation 4 also received the same update.

“All my homies love 25.06-12.02.00.00-00.00.00.0.1,” exclaimed Reddit user carnivoross.
“A 20-digit firmware identifier is such a Sony thing to do,” replied kaz_har_eye.
“Anybody here able to translate that binary code?” joked AnthonyTyrae.
"Man, why did they change the update name format from x.y.z to something this long?" asked SmtNocturneDante.

Jokes aside, Redditor Mcnuggetmonster did report an issue with their PlayStation 5 Pro after the system update was downloaded to the console.
“After the update, my Pro wouldn’t boot any game. I tried PS4 and PS5 games, and nothing worked. It would stay on the splash image, and when going to the PS5 home menu, it would act like I didn’t boot the game,” they explained.
“There was no prompt to close the game on the submenu, and the game tile wouldn’t be number one on the dashboard. I rebooted, and it worked like nothing happened. Just something to take note of.”
I’m not sure what you can do if you encounter any issues with your PlayStation 5 following this week's update, but if so, Sony might have to roll out another update ASAP to fix those reported problems.

That being said, hopefully, you won't encounter any issues as a result of the long-winded 25.06-12.02.00.00-00.00.00.0.1.
