PlayStation 5 'GOATED' New System Update is a Hit With Gamers

A controller for all seasons

If you haven't been playing over the last few days, it would have been very easy to miss one of the most important firmware updates in the consoles history. Even more bizarrely, you had to download it manually, so if you didn't go into your settings and get the process started, it's likely still sitting there.

So what exactly did it do? Well in the first instance it introduced a bespoke Power Saver mode that allows certain games to run whilst using considerably less electricity, helping our planet in the process.

The real headline news, though, was an update to the Dualsense controller, that allows it to connect to several devices simultaneously, with seamless switching using the controller's action buttons.

It's safe to say that the change is proving to be a huge hit with fans, particularly over on Reddit, where one player shared their experience with the new system so far, saying that the new Dualsense update is "GOATED".

Others were keen to share what a difference that has made to their enjoyment at home, particularly in households with multiple players on different platforms simultaneously. "Agreed! It's super easy to switch between the PS3 and our PS5 now. It's also perfect for my wife since she likes to use her controller with our PC from time to time," one said.

Another was delighted, but questioned why the change wasn't brought in earlier in the console's life cycle, saying, "If it was capable of this all along what took them so long? Great though as I no longer have to connect via cable to update the firmware for ones connected to other devices."

"I know right, this is really nice, can pair with Apple TV, phone, laptop, and PS5. Legitimately there were times I decided not to game cause I didn’t want to deal with repairing lmao," a third claimed.

Others have been doing their best to spread the word, even if some are resistant to the potential benefits. "I tried to stress to my friends how nice this is and they just don't understand or don't see it. They just blow me off and ignore the feature. I agree. One of the best QoL updates since the PS5 release. I looove it," another added.

The feature started rolling out incrementally, but it should now be available to download to your console, regardless of where you find yourself in the world.
