PlayStation Drops Surprise Update Adding Game-Changing New Feature

Coming tomorrow

PlayStation is releasing a new update to the DualSense controller, adding a feature we’ve been asking for years.

The DualSense is probably one of the best controllers you can get at the moment. Not only does it have quite a nice ergonomic design, but it has some neat features with regards to rumble and gyro that aren’t really seen elsewhere.

Although some players report issues with the battery life of the controller, Sony has dedicated itself to improving the DualSense over time with new features and enhancements.

A new beta update for PlayStation 5 is going live tomorrow that will add the ability to pair the DualSense controller across multiple devices, meaning you can pair one controller to your PS5, your PC, Steam Deck, or even your mobile phone.

As demonstrated on PlayStation Blog, “With this update, you can now register up to four devices simultaneously, and easily switch between them directly from your controller.

“For example, you can take your controller which you use with your PS5, then seamlessly switch connection to a PC to play PC games, or connect it to a smartphone to enjoy Remote Play from your PS5. With this enhanced flexibility, you can enjoy gaming more freely across multiple devices.”

To pair up a DualSense with another device, ensure your controller is turned off, then press and hold one of the face buttons (cross, circle, triangle, square) with the PS button together for around 5 seconds, then you’ll see the light bar and player indicator flash twice.

After this, turn on Bluetooth on whatever device you’re trying to pair it to. Once that’s turned on, select the option to start scanning for devices.

Once you've done that, find the controller from the detective devices when it appears and connect to it. If successful, your controller should light up and blink according to the slot number.

The update also includes a new power saver mode which allows your PlayStation 5 console to reduce its power consumption. It’ll mean certain features will be unavailable to you, but should also mean that your console is drawing a lot less power.

Sony has also mentioned that updates for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Demon’s Souls, and Ghost of Yōtei will also include support for the Power Saver option.

The new DualSense pairing features and Power Saver options go live with the next PlayStation 5 system update, which drops tomorrow, 17th September.
