PlayStation 5 free remaster available now, no PS Plus needed

I'll be *sinking* a lot of time into this one

One underrated 2019 banger just got a brand new, completely free remaster on PlayStation… and you don’t even need to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber to get your hands on it.

Thank you in advance to Push Square’s Liam Croft for the original source!

The Sinking City, a 2019 action-adventure title from developer and publisher Frogwares, just got a free remastered upgrade on the PlayStation Store (provided, of course, that you already own the original game).

There are no loopholes or free trials to sign up for here. Just pop on over to the PlayStation Store page for the game and claim your free upgrade. It’s that simple.

So, what’s got the developers of The Sinking City feeling so generous? Even the big publishers charge folks for upgrades these days (looking at you, Nintendo), so how come they’re willing to give this away at no extra cost?

Well, if I were a betting man, I’d wager it has a little bit of something to do with the upcoming release of its sequel, The Sinking City 2.

The Sinking City 2 doesn’t have an exact release date at the moment, but it is believed to be dropping at some point in 2025.

Getting the first game back into the news cycle by generously announcing a free upgrade will, in turn, lead people to find out a sequel is on its way, and doubtlessly drive up sales when it does finally drop.

I remember the reviews for this one being all over the place when it first dropped, but I got around to it a little late (assumedly after some patches fixed some stuff) and honestly enjoyed it.

It won’t change your life, but I thought the H. P. Lovecraft-inspired story was damn good. At the very least, I’d suggest playing it just for the plot alone.
