According to new leaks, a 16-year-old classic from the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 era is being remade, coinciding with the latest instalment of its rebooted franchise.
Despite being definitive of their time, games often get left behind when new generations of consoles come by, with very few passing the test of time.
Opening the door to brilliant remakes like The Last of Us Part I, many developers have tried to bring their successful blueprints into the modern era, and now another popular franchise is set to continue its efforts at reviving its vintage titles.
Reportedly coming to celebrate the sequel to Mafia: The Old Country, Mafia II is set for a remake.
With the franchise reinvigorated by Old Country, 2K appears to be readying an all-out barrage of Mafia content in the next few years.

According to a fan channel (Mafia Game Videos), the developers have been recording weapon sounds for guns that have so far been exclusive to Mafia II.
It is expected that a remake would coincide with the sequel to The Old Country in the next two years, although further details have been few and far between.
The report was later backed by popular leaker DetectiveSeeds, who claimed we 'may see something soon.'
It wouldn't be the first time that Mafia II has been given a glow-up, as the title was given a graphic uplift in the Definitive Edition remaster in 2020, alongside the remake of Mafia (2002).
But a remake would see the developers start over and give the title extra love and further questlines, rather than just a polish of its appearance.
The fact that some characters from the sequel appeared as their younger self in The Old Country (2025) and will likely appear again in its sequel further stokes the fire that these staple franchise figures could be remade to allow fans a satisfying full-circle sense of accomplishment as their stories conclude.
Originally released in 2010, Mafia II followed young Sicilian-American mobster Vito Scaletta as he embarked on a gripping quest about family, friendship, loyalty, and betrayal.

Having made an impact with its exemplary storyline - let down slightly by its repetitive side quests - the game was looked at favourably by critics, and it would only take some extra care on the outskirts of the title to make sure it is a resounding hit in the modern era.
Considering the Mafia I remake is widely considered to be the best instalment in the history of the franchise, there will be big expectations that its follow-up would be just as good, if not better.
Still, any chance to relive our mobster childhoods sounds like a good time.
