An upcoming RPG has just dropped a new free demo on PS5, and it looks stunning.

The Octopath Traveler series has become one of Square Enix’s most popular RPGs outside of Final Fantasy, with millions of units shifting for each game in the series so far.

Although it’s only had three games release so far, it’s clear that the series has legs, as evident by the large number of sales its had.

A new prequel in the series, Octopath Traveler 0, launches next month and fans are now able to enjoy a small slice of the game ahead of the release date.

Octopath Traveler 0 Prologue Demo has now launched on PlayStation 5, as well as PS4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Windows, and Steam.

Square Enix

The demo allows you to play through Octopath Traveler 0’s opening chapter, as well as the first part of three different story arcs from the Retribution story and the first chapter of the Restoration story.

However, if your playtime exceeds three hours then the demo will also end there. Whichever comes first.

Progress made in the demo does carry over to the full game should you decide to pick it up on 4th December.

So, if the demo influences your decision to purchase the game, you won’t have to sit through the three-hour opening again.

What's in the Octopath Traveler 0 demo?

“The first thing you’ll do is design your protagonist, and play through the explosive introduction to the game. You’ll discover how a joyful town festival turns to tragedy, and how your hero embarks on a journey of restoration and revenge,” Square Enix has revealed regarding the Octopath Traveler 0 Demo.

“You’ll set off after three antagonists, known as the Masters. Each of them has their own ‘Master of’ arc, and in the demo, you can play through the first chapter of each of them in any order you please.

“You can also play up to the end of the first chapter of the ‘Kindlers of the Flame’ story arc, which focuses on the restoration of Wishvale and the town-building features of the game.

It’s a great way to lay some strong foundations before you build the town of your dreams in the full game!”

Octopath Traveler 0 is set to release for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC via Steam, and Xbox Series X/S on 4th December, 2025.
