The Last Of Us Part 2 surprise DLC announced

Two familiar faces return

This is a welcomed surprise.

It’s an exciting time for The Last of Us fans; season two of the acclaimed HBO adaptation is set to premiere on 13 April, plus The Last of Us Part II Remastered’s PC port is due to be released on 3 April.

As such, I wasn’t expecting much more beyond that but Naughty Dog clearly thought it rude to leave PlayStation 5 users out of all the fun.

It’s been revealed that The Last of Us Part II Remastered’s No Return mode is receiving a hefty free update.

Scheduled to drop on 3 April alongside the game’s PC release, it’s patch V.2.0.0. that fans will want to look out for.

As for what it includes, well, it’s set to introduce two new playable characters: Bill and Marlene.

You can take a look at our review of The Last of Us Part II Remastered below.

I’m excited to try them out, because I’ve definitely got attached to playing as Abby and Manny.

Bill will introduce the ‘smuggler’ playstyle with the character able to access a new custom pump shotgun from dead drops; he’ll also receive double rewards from drops too.

He’s stronger against melee attacks but can’t dodge. Oof, tough. I’ve always struggled using Tommy and Joel on No Return runs for their lack of ability to dodge.

Marlene is known as a ‘risk taker’ and will bring a custom assault rifle and ‘all or nothing’ gambits to the table.

She’ll also be able to reroute her path once per run which is an interesting feature.

Alongside that, the update will also introduce four new maps by which I mean new to No Return.

These will be familiar to Part II players.

No Return encounters will now be able to take place in ‘Overlook’, an exposed high-up location where Abby and Lev face off against Scars on Day Two, ‘School’, which is where Ellie and Dina escape the WLF on Day One, ‘Streets’, a part of Hillcrest, and ‘Nest’, an infected-infested building Abby escapes during The Descent.

New trophies have been added, plus a number of bug fixes have been made.

Finally, PlayStation 5 players will also soon be able to unlock Jordan’s jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

When the update drops, the item will become unlockable via the in-game bonus points.

It’s been a while since I picked up No Return, so this is exactly the incentive I needed.

As I said, the update drops on 3 April alongside the PC release - and The Last of Us’ second season will follow on 13 April.
