The Last of Us Part II is easily one of the most intense gaming experiences in existence, and this first-person overhaul only ups the ante.
At last, Naughty Dog has confirmed that there are several new The Last of Us projects in development and while it’s unknown what they are precisely, the major hope is that one is The Last of Us Part III.
With Naughty Dog’s focus very much on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and its rumoured Uncharted reboot, it’s going to be a while before those new The Last of Us projects are unveiled.
In the meantime, a new way to play the acclaimed sequel The Last of Us Part II may be coming, courtesy of one very talented fan.

Reddit user MrGuiga70 took to the site to reveal a preview of a first-person mod they’re working on for the PC edition of the game.
“I’m working on a first-person mod for The Last of Us Part II,” they began. “I made a small preview showcasing the mostly functional mod on PC. If this interests someone, I might publish it.”
Well, you better get to publishing MrGuiga70 because we’re interested.
See through Ellie and Abby’s eyes in this preview of the first-person mode
The demo video of the mod showcases a segment from the Hillcrest portion of the game which falls on Seattle Day Two for Ellie.
The Last of Us Part II is already so immersive, playing upon your complicity in the horrors of the narrative.
Hillcrest is a particularly high-octane section where the combat just never seems to end, only building in intensity; this first-person view makes that experience all the more exhilarating.
The second portion of the demo video switches to Abby’s point-of-view as we experience her early adventures on Seattle Day One.
That includes quite quickly coming face-to-face with a clicker. It’s one of the game’s most alarming jump scares and experiencing it in first-person is not for the faint of heart.
Hopefully, this mod is made available online via NexusMods, or something of that ilk, soon.
I’m just hoping it doesn’t fall victim to the same fate as the recent multiplayer mod for The Last of Us Part II that was nuked out of existence.

Fans of the franchise are incredibly hyped by what MrGuiga70 has put together.
“Damn, it’s like an entirely different game,” replied -CrImsoN-.
User AppointmentNo3853 added, “I will have to finish this game another time with this mod. This looks really cool.”
“Holy f**k. This looks amazingggg,” remarked prodxknwn.
It’s true. Every animation looks so incredibly fluid, as if The Last of Us Part II has always been playable this way.
Of course, third-person is what feels right for the series, but we’re never going to say no to a new way to experience this all-time great.
If you don’t have The Last of Us Part II on PC and won’t be able to eagerly await this mod’s release, don’t overlook Chronological Mode.
This officially released mode allows you to play through The Last of Us Part II in chronological order.
It most definitely shouldn’t be how you experience the game the first time around, but it makes for an interesting replay.
The beginning of chronological mode can be a slog as you work your way through lots of cutscene-heavy flashbacks before diving into the game’s opening.
Once you reach Seattle though, it really does find its footing.
