The Last Of Us Part 2 hailed as peak video game graphics

The Last of Us Part II strikes a hole-in-one with its peak video game graphics.

Love it or hate it, The Last of Us Part II is widely considered to be one of the best video games of all time for a variety of reasons.

When the original The Last of Us was released for the PlayStation 3 in 2013 towards the end of the console's life, it pushed the system to its absolute limits. Naughty Dog, the developers of the Uncharted series, told a story of a post-apocalyptic world in which Mother Earth had been ravaged by the Cordyceps virus, turning humans into raging mutations that exist to keep the virus spreading.

At the heart of its story are Ellie and Joel. Without giving too much away, Joel, a family man turned ruthless smuggler is tasked with protecting 14-year-old Ellie from one side of the United States to the next delivering her to a rebel group known as the Fireflies. It is believed that Ellie could be the key to humanity's survival, but when Joel and Ellie form a strong parental bond, Joel will protect Ellie no matter the cost.

The story of The Last of Us was so well told, that it not only evolved into a live-action TV series from HBO which was released earlier this year, but prior to that in 2020 we got a sequel on PS4 with The Last of Us Part II.

Much like the game of 2013, The Last of Us Part II was one of PS4’s last major exclusives and would push the system to its absolute limits. I won’t go into story details to avoid spoilers, but in terms of visuals at least, the sequel is simply stunning when you consider that it’s on a last-gen platform.

What’s more, the sequel looked and played better than ever thanks to a new-gen update on PS5. This meant that the game not only looked a bit better in a more crisp 4K resolution, but it also runs at a silky smooth 60fps.

Fans on Reddit have been discussing, despite releasing over three years ago, that The Last of Us Part II is still one of the best-looking video games today. Reddit user Alive-Ad-4164 began the discussion on the thread by sharing a tweet from DomTheBomb.

“It's only been three years. but yes it looks great, Naughty Dog knows their stuff,” said Redditor toldya_fareducation. “The Last of Us Part II on my PS4 Pro looks better than a lot of PS5 games,” added WattsonRules. “Hell, even Uncharted 4 looks brand new. Playing it for the first time as I type this,” replied Revealingstorm.

In related news, an insider claims that The Last of Us Part III may be arriving much sooner than expected and it is being developed for the PlayStation 6.

As for immediate times, The Last of Us Part II is out now for PlayStation, while the remake of the original game, The Last of Us Part I is out for PC and PS5.
