PlayStation Plus users have been treated to a surprise open-world FPS freebie that could provide endless fun, and it’s available to claim right now.
Typically, when new additions are announced to Sony’s PlayStation Plus service, they tend to arrive in a batch, whether it's for the PS Plus Essential, Extra, or Premium tiers. But, now and again, we get a free game that is dropped on its own, such as this popular open-world FPS.
The PlayStation Plus freebie in question is Destiny 2: Legacy Collection (2025), which is playable on both PS5 and PS4. As the name of this game suggests, it includes pretty much all the Destiny 2 content from 2025, with a few exceptions.
However, as complete as the bundle appears to be, as mentioned by Reddit user JasonDeSanta, it is missing ‘Edge of Fate’ and ‘Renegades’. The PlayStation Store listing also mentions that Dungeon Keys for The Final Shape, Lightfall and The Witch Queen are sold separately.

Yes and no. In terms of gameplay, any fan of the first-person shooter genre should have no issue getting to grips with Destiny 2. That being said, if you’re new to the game or haven't played it for a couple of years, knowing what missions to take on first can be very overwhelming.

I have put a combined thousands of hours into both Destiny and Destiny 2. After returning to D2 when feeling burned out a couple of years later, there were so many notifications and new missions in the Tower hub that I had no clue where to start. I instantly bailed.
“Is it worth trying for the first time?” asked idkimhereforthememes, to which kanon951 replied, “I mean, it's free if you have the sub, but good luck getting through the quests unless you have someone to guide you through the game. The game is notoriously bad at onboarding first-time players.”
Last month, developers Bungie announced that content support for Destiny 2 is ending on 9 June 2026, with that day being its last-ever content. What’s more, speculation was making the rounds that internally, development on Destiny 3 had ended.
As you can imagine, this news did not go down well with fans, especially as it was to put 100% focus into the 2026 colossal flop, Marathon. Instead of Sony and Bungie throwing all its eggs into one basket with its new extraction shooter, many would not have wanted it to be at the expense of Destiny 3.
In an act of protest at the reported cancellation of Destiny 3, fans organised a petition demanding that production on the third game in the series continues. At the time of writing that article on 25 May 2026, over 173,000 fans had signed the petition. On 10 June 2026, that number was just under 378,000.
Destiny 2 is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Also, with it being a cross-platform title, if you claim the Legacy Collection (2025) via PS Plus, it means the content will be accessible across all platforms.
