Hogwarts Legacy fans urged to claim free download while they can

It might be time to say goodbye

Hogwarts Legacy players have warned fans to claim a free download before it’s too late.

Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games, Hogwarts Legacy was released in February 2023 and became an instant success with Harry Potter fans.

Hogwarts Legacy was such a success that it not only outsold Elden Ring in just five weeks but also went on to become the best-selling game of 2023, which was no small feat.

In 2023, it was a fantastic year which also saw the release of the Resident Evil 4 remake, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, to name a few.

So, for Hogwarts Legacy to sell as well as it did, it just shows the quality and popularity of the game. Despite being totally snubbed at The Game Awards.

In April, Hogwarts Legacy was included in PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, to the delight of Wizarding World fans. However, if you’re a subscriber and have not yet started the game, you might want to change that ASAP.

It was recently revealed what’s leaving PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in August 2025, and despite not including Hogwarts Legacy, its time on the subscription service might soon be coming to an end.

“While keeping in mind that Hogwarts Legacy will most probably be leaving on 21 October, after six months on Extra and Premium,” warned Reddit user The_Sybian.

Third-party games are not always available exclusively on PlayStation Plus for six months; some may stay less or more. However, more often than not, six months is probably the most common time a game will remain on the service.

So with Hogwarts Legacy coming to PlayStation Plus in April 2025, there’s a very good chance that The_Sybian has hit the proverbial nail on the head.

“October 2025 could be a bloodbath, if Dead Island 2, The Devil In Me and GRIS (among others) are also removed,” they added.

Hogwarts Legacy is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
